Weird Unresponsiveness from Windows Vista

Over the past several days, I’ve had weird problems with my main PC, which is where I create most of the content for OCModShop.  Yes, I have all of the assets guarded on a seperate RAIDed box, so don’t worry about that.
I first noticed the problem when moving MP3s over to a new Synology 2TB [...]

Matrox Quad Monitor DisplayPort Video Cards

Matrox just released their triple and quad-monitor DisplayPort M-Series graphics cards.
They feature 1GB of memory and can output a large 2560×1600 resolution per output (max resolution is only available through DisplayPort… DVI only supports 1920×1200).  They are targeted towards business, industrial, and government applications, and have an equally businessy price at $400 and $630.
You can [...]

Mac Bloggers Bashing Laptop Hunter Commercials

I’ve seen a few technology bloggers immediately start bashing the Microsoft “Laptop Hunter / it’s a PC ” commercial.  They say that it’s like comparing apples or orange (pun intended).  In the commercial, the “actor” goes into an Apple store, and cannot find a computer with the features she wants near their budget ($1000 or [...]

Vista no likey Blu-ray

I’ve written in previous posts that I finally procured a Blu-ray burner for the OCMS Labs.  The drives have come way down in price, but the media is still somewhat expensive, even when compared to dual-layer DVD-R discs… you can get a 50-pack spindle for around $35! That’s about 70 cents per disc for those [...]

Availability of Blu-ray Media

So, I’ve finally secured a Blu-ray drive for the OCMS labs.  Now the only thing is to get hordes of BD-R media, so I ventured out on one of our famous OCMS Field Trips.
I go into one local computer store and ask where their Blu-ray media is.  Looking bewlidered, the sales rep called over the [...]

3ware Escalade 7000 and Server 2008

So, I’ve been toying with Windows Server 2008 for a few weeks, and have ironed out most of the kinks… until I came across this little issue…
The server I used has a 3ware Escalade 7000 RAID card (2-port SATA).  There are no “official” Server 2008 drivers, but their support said that the latest drivers work [...]

Big Long Fight with PHP and FastCGI

So it took a good 15 hours from start to finish with Server 2008.  This is why I don’t really like to do upgrades unless I absolutely have to.  I finally nailed down a configuration of Server 2003 that doesn’t crash or give me headaches, and here I am upgrading again!
To add insult to injury, [...]

Server installation troubles with DVD-ROMs

I can be such a dumbass sometimes.
If you read my previous post, you know that I’m trying to install Server 2008 on a spare server.  Well, I’ve had quite a fiasco that I haven’t experienced in a long time….
I created several boot DVDs, but I couldn’t get the server to read any of them.  I [...]

An Introduction and Recent Happenings

So before I go ahead with anything else, I wanted to go ahead and give a brief introduction to everyone. My name is Tyler Pilgrim and I’m a 19 year old computer science major out of Georgia College and State University and UGA. I’m also working on a minor in English, which was originally my [...]
