GeForce 8600 a good upgrade?

I currently have an XFX nVidia 7800 video card, and it runs great, but I’m tempted into buying one of the newer 8600 cards.
Some benchmarks show the 8600 performing better than a 7800, while others show worse performance than a 7800. The price of the 8600 is right, about $150. I’m wondering if I should be happy with what I have, get another 7800 for SLI, or wait for the 8800 prices to drop.
What are you experiences with the 8600? Is it a worthwhile upgrade? The 8800 is just not feasible right now because they cost too much.
