FarCry sound not working

The music sounds work fine but not the sound effects like gunfire and people talking, I am using v1.3 of the game. Everything works but FarCry which leads me to believe that it may be some corruption with the game. I have done DirextX Diag to make sure the sound works, Counter-Strike: Source and everything else works just fine. I have tried compatibility mode in FarCry and have messed with all the sounds settings that have not fixed anything. Is there anything anyone can think of to fix this short of reinstalling?
