Graphical Accuracy of LCDs

There are also graphics accuracy issues. LCD uses square pixels with three vertical stripes of color while CRT uses a round pixel and can change the color of that pixel. In CAD/CAM/CAE this can lead to lines looking like they intersect when they don’t and so on. Also, all but a very few LCDs are not as color accurate as even the worst CRT when calibrated - LCDs like the IBM T221 and the Apple Cinema HD can get to the level of CRT, but none exceed it. On top of that, LCDs have a hard time displaying true black for movies and whatnot since when turning off a pixel they have to block light from coming out instead of having no light get there in the first place.

LCDs, of course, because of the 3 vertical stripes can be used to triple the horizontal resolution with text and typically are much easier on the eyes if you’re looking at spreadsheets and word processing all day, plus they use less power and take up much less space.
