nVidia Performance Issue

On further investigation of the nVidia performance issue, it would appear that using standard DX9 calls the Geforce FX performs horribly, while using highly custom-optimized nVidia Cg code for the NV30 it runs about as fast to slightly faster than the Radeon 9700 Pro. Sounds like something Microsoft would pull.
Oh well, nVidia’s in trouble anyway: the date that the nVidia Geforce FX is supposed to be available for mass consumption, ATi is releasing the R350 chip (the Radeon 9500/9700 [Pro] is an R300) at $300 compared to the GF FX at $500 … oh, and the R350 is supposed to outperform the GF FX by 20-30% and outperform the Radeon 9700 Pro by 20-40%, according to ATi. Oh, and it will be available for mass consumption within a week of the launch date, unlike the GF FX’s paper launch.
